With all the expert mechanics out there in team.net land, someone must
have an answer for why the clutch on my '74 TR-6 is acting the way it is.
If you have any ideas, please let them be known (selling the car and
getting a Honda is not an option).
I personally of never heard of anything like this:
I have a fairly new clutch master and clutch slave cylinder. Since I
installed both, the clutch works perfectly on level ground, slight
uphill inclines, and downhill inclines, but heading uphill on fairly
steep grades, I loose all clutch pressure - the clutch pedal goes to the
floor. For instance if I'm travelling up a steep hill with a stoplight at
the top and I must come to a complete stop, I will put the car in neutral.
When the light turns green, I attempt to put the car in gear, but I get no
clutch pressure at all. I try pumping the clutch to build up pressure,
but with no results. I sit helplessly until all the cars pass and I can
roll the car back to level ground at which time, on queue, I get all the
clutch pressure back and everything works normally. It has been this way
for about a month. The clutch works perfectly at all other times. Its a
good thing I live in Florida where its relatively flat.
Here is what I've done so far:
My first thought was that I may just have air in the system somewhere,
since I just installed the new Girling master and Lockheed slave, so I re-bled
the system.
That didn't work. OK, so maybe I have a leak? But the fluid level is
constant and no leaks are evident anywhere. Maybe its just a trapped air
bubble somewhere? Since I only loose pressure uphill, I jacked the front
of the car up as high as I could get it and then bled the system (this
last one was purely an act of desperation). This didn't work.
I thought I must be passing fluid back into the reservior. Even though
new, maybe I had a bad seal somewhere. I installed a clutch master repair
kit, checked the spring length on the plunger and cleaned everything out
very well. Put it all back together but no luck. I still have the
Identical problem as before.
Has this ever happened to anyone? Or does anyone have an idea for why this
