There were some fairly fundamental differences between the PI and Carb 6's
up to 1970 when I left Triumph. The cam was different, I think the
compression was a little higher and I'm fairly sure the dizzy was different
as well. If you are after more power, I would have thought it might be
better to stay with carbs (of whatever type you prefer) a modified and gas
flowed head, together with a much improved cam. How this will affect smog
levels in your locality is something only you will know, so probably some
thorough research is advisable before money is spent. I remember seeing a
TR250 once in Chicago which had had this treatment and the Strombergs had
given way to 2 45DCOE Webers or they might have been Dellortos. It
certainly was one lot quicker than a standard 250.
As far as the driveline was concerned, I don't think there were any changes
in terms of strength. There MIGHT have been a slightly lower axle ration
for the carb car but I'm sure someone with far more factual data to hand
than I possess (which is only my memory) will correct me on all these
points.
