If its only the last half inch its the pilot bearing for the input
shaft. this can be a bit frustrating. Make sure, if this tranny is not
out of this car, or you replaced the pilot bearing, that its the same
size. (dunno if there are different sizes on a spitty, this is more
general.) Then getting the tranny in there usually just requires a bit
of wiggling and what I found helped was turning the output end of the
gearbox at the same time. It is imperative, that there is no force used.
If it sticks, just move it out a bit and try again. I spend hours with
an Alfa tranny and got very frustrated. In the end I took it out again
and whern I treid next time it just slid into place. Silly, I know, but
thats the way life goes.
