Can anyone enlighten me as to the function of a flasher module?
First I will list my assumptions (based on the fact that my TR6 has two
of them and each is different).
1. The function is to provide a consistent duration of on-off cycles to
a circuit, ie lights. Consistent meaning the same time interval for each
cycle regardless of the conditions.
2. The duration of a given flasher unit is dependent upon the voltage it
gets and the load it must provide the "flashing" for. So if the load
increases, the duration will change (voltage stays constant).
3. The turn indicator flasher flashes two lights and the hazard flashes
four lights. Thus to provide the same duration a different unit is
required for each circuit.
This is my layman's understanding (!?) of this topic. Now who can
explain to me what I have wrong?
Lastly, how can one test a flasher to ensure it works correctly? (With a
multimeter or other tool that is, prior to fitting to the car).
Thanks in advance,
