Hi all TR fans!
We the TDC of Manitoba had a display at the ISCA World of Wheels this past
weekend. Oh what fun to be three cars in the space of two! This, of
course, means ours are the "small" cars in the show. Most everything else
is 'merican or tube framed but hey, with the 75th of Tr and the 100th of
Donald Healey we just had to have another go at it.
There was my GT6+ as a production road racer, the TR6 (74) I've been
restoring for 18 months, and a fresh TR8. Light yellow, bright yellow,
and Midas gold they were. Thankfully the lights are good to yellows.
The healey guys had a fantastic display of a bugeye, a sprite II, and 3 big
healeys - 1 vintage racer and 2 that have done the Shell 4000 retro rallye.
The winnipeg sports car club has 2 formula v's, a C sports racer, a 67 ah
sprite road racer, 74 honda civic road racer, and a n 88 mazda 323 GT 16v
turbo modified production racer - I think the paint was still wet on that one.
We all had very good reviews - my Gt was bettered onlt by the mazda (ugh),
Aaron's TR6 and Terrry's TR8 were 1st and 2nd in class. The Healeys took
2,3, and 4th behind a fantastic Jag XJS.
Now the interesting bit. At these shows, they work on a 100 point scale.
I got a 57. Aaron got a 59 and Terry got a 52. D, D+, and D-. Hmmmm -
think they expect a mirror finish on the mufflers? The sad part is that I
would be scared to drive anything nicer than wot I've got AND my marks went
UP from laste year when judged as a street car. Is there anyone on the
list who would drive a 100 ppoint car?
Oh, and by the way, there was no mention of the dints on the frame under
the motor from jacking (or the scratches on the diff paint) - but I don;t
think it even needs to be said at that point.
This was Aaron and Terry's first attempt at the show and both were really
happy - but both have even more enthusiasm for the VTR meet this summer!!
See you all then.
