Greetings,
The current issue of Classic Auto Restorer contains a letter from a fellow in
North Carolina. It reads as follows:
"A couple years back a man came into my shop with his recently purchased
1972 MGB and said it had a charging problem. What I saw, upon opening the
hood, was unbelievable. I didn't think it was possible to nail an alternator
to an engine. But, because one of the bolt holes had broken off of the
alternator, the previous owner came up with this alternatively engineered
solution. He first bolted a piece of wood to the block. Next, he took a
couple of large hose clamps and attached a piece of wood to the alternator. A
hammer and some nails finished the installation.
Unfortunately, the Einstein who did this hadn't designed in any
adjustment features, so the belt couldn't be tightened."
