TR 6 "ingnitor" and loose catch plate question

I took the easy way out on the coil resistance when I hooked up my
"ingnitor".  I looked up my coil specs in Bentley, 71 TR 6 = 3.0 ohm coil. 
I was lucky the DPO hadn't changed the coil.  Easy installing and it works
great.

Question.  Due to some foreign damp substance appearing in AZ, I've had to
use the top which has begun to rattle at the right hand catch plate.  If I
drill out the pop rivets can I remove the capping strip over the
windshield?  With the cap off, what gets loose in there?
