I have the vacuum retard disconnected on my 69 and thats where I set my
timing, 10 BTDC. Runs fine there.

Subject: A question of (TR6) timing

On the weekend I adjusted the timing of my ex-US carb car to 4 ATDC dynamic
as per the manual. The thing would backfire through the carbs under partial
throttle acceleration. So I took it into the local tuning shop, who about
tweaking and tuning, had ended up setting it at around 10 - 12 BTDC dynamic.
As you can see there is a marked difference between the 2.

When I discussed this with them they couldn't explain it but asked me if it
had a cam in it because power really comes on around 2500 rpm. Because I
haven't any history about the car I couldn't comment.

Has anyone got any thoughts on this or had similar experiences?

John
