Richard,
Have you greased the ball joints?

After I put the parts back on my bare frame and relieved the tension on
the spring compressor, the vertical link will not pivot on its axis
between the upper ball joint and the trunnion. Compress the spring a
little, and it pivots. I installed a shock on one side thinking that it
might provide some compression on the spring but it didn't.
Here's what I've done:
-new bushings
-new ball joints
-cleaned and refilled trunnions w/gear oil
I've reassembled parts according to the photos and text in the Practical
Classics TR6 Rebuild book, Haynes, and Bentley, and am reasonably sure
that everything is installed correctly. The hubs, rotors and calipers
have not been installed yet.
I've done this once before on my other car, and never had a problem. Is
there something that I'm overlooking?
TIA,
Richard Leopold
