Will,
"Grab a hammer and hit yourself in the head"--was a reply I received when I
asked the All British Cars list about opinions on placing a small block V8
in a TR6. However, I finally did find a few that had done it, and yet a
smaller number that had done it "right". After further research and raising
my budget, I'm still stuck to the hair brained idea.
I have driven a GT6 with a 302 and it handled worse than the old man's Ford
tractor. I have seen some very chromey V8 installations in a spit, but if
you plan on turning the wheels, you're going to have to set that motor
quite a ways back. I would recommend something lighter and shorter
(vertically) such as a rotary (have you seen the ro-spit project in
Grassroots motorsports?), or if you're stuck on the sound of a V8, how
about the rover alluminum V8 (up to 240hp) weighing in around 330lbs fully
dressed?
Let me know your thoughts and I can point you in the direction of some
great technical references.

At the risk of offending those triumph purists, I'm letting the list know
about my latest undertaking.
Here's the Recipe:
1 1977 Triumph Spitfire
1 Ford 289 Small Block V8
1 Ford AOD Transmission
1 Dayna 60 Rear end sporting 3.73 Gears
Anyone have any input on this?
The interesting part will be making a solid axle fit underneath the back
end of the spit.
This is why I have those nifty parts to sell.
Will
