Beyond all that, it appears to me that these springs are pretty much
symmetrical!?

That's pretty much been my experience. I've had them marked front on a tag
affixed to one of the leaf clamps, also had the clamp itself marked front.
Had springs with NO markings whatsoever, although I haven't seen one with a
machined edge yet. So I guess if its marked in one way or another, then
put it in the way it's marked. If it's not marked, then I guess it doesn't
really matter -
