It seems that I recall not long ago there was some discussion on the
relpacement of the Lucas Alternator in Spitfires with something more
reliable and that will put out more Amps.
Last night, I was coaxed by my daughter into going for a Spit ride.
Since lately the only times I have the Spit out have been on short
daytime jaunts, I was reluctant to go out in the dark.
My fears were realized about 2 miles from home on the return trip when
the whole car shut down. (I retract everything I have previously said
about Electronic ignition systems and Electric Fuel Pumps)
The alternator is obviously not putting out enough to mnake the car run
with the lights on. (Now I know why the Brits run around the cities
with only their parking lights on at night).
Now, I know I should have made notes on that earlier thread. So, please
send repeats about the recommended replacements. I am tired of having
to walk.
Regards,
Joe Curry '63 Spit (with Lucas alternator)
