Thanks to all who responded to my question on how to get those
thightly fitting valves into the fuel pump ('70 TR6 AC mechanical
pump).
Had success today in getting the intake valve seated properly and
will repeat when I get a new valve from Moss (yes, bought another
kit after distroying one of the valves while trying to get in).
Here is what worked for me:
1. Put the valve in the freezer for an hour to contract metal
2. Put the fuel pump top half in the oven, set at 250 degrees
for about 20 minutes (baste as desired) to expand seat hole
3. Using gloves, dropped the valve gasket into the hole and
set the valve over the hole so it is level
4. Using a piece of copper pipe (go to a hardware store's
plumbing section and in the bins there should be pre-cut
pipe which I fould one that was a perfect fit) and rubber
mallet, tap the valve into the seat
5. If it is cocked to one side and not level, as mine was, I
used a nail tap (to drive nail head below the wood surface)
that had a tip that fit the valve lip and tapped the side down
so the valve sits level
Seems like alot of jirations, but it worked and I was not a happy
camper with those little suckers!
