Refinishing TR6 Dashboard

Hello,

        I was curious if anyone has tried to refinish thier TR6 dashboard.
The wood seems to be in good shape, but the finish is cracking.  What
concerns me about refinishing the dash is that the wood surface may be
very thin and it may be damaged while sanding down the finish.  Thank you
for any advice.
