Joe,
Most of the time the pressure of the tie rod nut has locked the tie rod
onto the steering link (or tie rod lever if you prefer). It is
necessary to use a tapered fork tool to remove the tie rod. This tool
is available in any auto parts store.
The process is to place the end of the tool around the tie rod end and
whack it with a hammer. The force spreads the tie rod and the hole
where it is mounted. Don't forget to remove the nut first.
