Marty,
I had a "show finish" dash made up at Prestige. It is made of Hawaaian
Koa wood in my wife's honor, being from da big island. At least two othe guys
in my club have had dashes made there too, one is a beautiful light teak in a
6, the other a walnut burl in a 4. Both are outstanding !
The workmanship is top of the line, I have gotten many compliments
everywhere I go. Randy does the special order woods to order, so mine took
about six weeks. I think he has some of the standard style 6 dashes in stock,
but his selection of woods is so vast, you can hardly go "stock" when faced
with all these choices. Considering his basic cost, and the difference between
those and the more exotic woods....well I couldn't resist.
His shop is about 30 minutes from my house which allowed me to check on
the wood type first hand, not relying on pictures. I was also able to stop by
the shop occasionally, bringing a cold six pack and taking in as much of his
expetise as I could glean. The guy is truly a master.
I installed into a 72 Spit, which many will know had the black plastic
dash. I had to scramble through quite a few wrecking yards to find all the
mounting hardware, warning light hardware, heater control plinth, crash pads
etc. as none of the originals really adapted well if at all. I say, it's your
car, make it pleasant for you to look at...the devil with concours....just my
humble opinion, definitely NOT a purist.

Subject: Dashboard
Hi all - I'm considering replacing the dashboard in my 1974 TR6.
Refurbishing is out as it's all chopped up. I was looking at TRF as they
have a sale going on. I also called Prestige Autowood in California. I
found them in Hemmings. Does anyone on the list have experience with
either dash and if so, what were those experiences. I'm trying to get as
close to original as possible.
Thanks in advance
