Forrest Bridges asked "Any major problems using this paint?" My experience
has been that it is difficult to roll or brush this paint as it sets up very
quickly (especially on hot days)and starts to pull the nap off the roller or
bristles off the paint brush. Remeber that you should apply enough coats to
get a 4 mil thickness. Complete curing takes six weeks. Hammerite's phone
number to find a source near you is 800-733-4413. I purchased some today and
the dealer gave me the follow HAMMERITE info concerning spray painting:
"Conventional Air Spray- Thin up to 25% with Hammerite Brush Cleaner and
Thinner.
Pot Pressure: 15-20 p.s.i.
Atomizing pressure: 25-35 p.s.i.
Nozzle size: 70-80 thousandths
Apply 3-4 coats allowing each coat to set for 30-45 minutes at 60F before
application of the next coat to prevent sags. Final coat must be wet enough
to flow to a uniform glossy finish. Rust protection requires dry film
thickness of
4 mils.
Airless Spray - Thinning should not be necessary. If required, thin up to 10%
with Hammerite Brush Cleaner and Thinner to optimize flow and atomization.
Atomizing pressure: 1000-1200 p.s.i.
Tip Size: 0.017"-0.021"
Apply 3-4 coats to a minimum dry film thickness of 4 mils for rust
protection. Allow each coat to set 30-45 minutes at 60F before application
of the next coat to avoid sagging. Final coat must be wet enough to provide a
unifrom glossy finish.
HVLP Spray- Thin up to 15% with Hammerite Thinner
Pressure: 6-10 p.s.i.
Nozzle size: 40-50 thousandths
Apply 3-4 coats as in (Airless Spray)
Electrostatic Spray - Thin up to 30% with Hammerite Thinner. Tested with
DeVilibis EFX equipment. Round nozzel with 80kv with high micro-amp charge.
Product has excellent "wrap around properties. Minor adjustments may be
required to give optimun atomization.
All coatings can be applied as soon as the previous coating is dry to the
touch, about 15 minutes. All coatings must be applied within one hour or
after six weeks cure time"
