There was numerous chat regarding this general topic in the Stag list, and the
consensus there seemed to be to use a puller, but gently, and then evenly and
consistently apply a torch to the hub while increasing the pull. Apparently it
just falls apart. Don't overheat though. I haven't tried it yet, but will next
time as I broke a hub trying to use my 20 tonne press.

Subject: SpitFire Rear hub removal??

One last job to do this year... Replace the rear hub axle bearings. I
have been told that a special tool is required to remove the hub from the
rear axle. I broke one jaw puller trying to get the hub off. I have since
been told trying to remove the hub in this manner is a NO NO. Has anyone
tried or had success with using a press with a bearing puller for a press (
wrong name I know). I would use the bearing puller to provide even support
under the hub. Would this work?? Any advice would be helpful!!

Thanks in advance!
