Locktite Required?

Greetings Again,

OK, I've got a couple of different opinions on locktite use and would like 
some input from the list.  One friend says do not assemble your motor without 
locktite---bearing cap bolts, connecting rod bolts, etc. etc.  He speaks as if 
it essential.  Another, of equivalent reputation says, while some people swear 
by it, if your torque settings are correct, locktite should not be necessary, 
beyond satisfying your personal uneasiness.  

Any opinions?
