No the head is still useable. First have the crack plugged, then have
"PINTO" valve seats installed. These seats are made of stalite(sp) steel
and will handle "unleaded" just fine, plus they are CHEAP. The stock TR
valves will also take "unleaded fuel". Pinto seats are a hair larger in
dia., but when installed right they will be tight in the head. Then as soon
as you fire-up your engine add "Alumiseal", run your engine hot, shut down
and drain; this step insures a good seal on the plugs.
Don't forget to have the head "magnafluxed", and plug ALL cracks. #4 runs
the hottest and will crack first. Replace all seats with these "PINTO'
seats.
This method works and is cheap, it also sets your engine up for unleaded,
propane, natural gas, or what ever fuel you want to run.
