I'm about to tear down my '74 TR6 engine (the car's in bits, the body's
at the bodyshop, the bits are in boxes). I bought a winch and I bought
an engine stand. I've even bought a pukkah BL repair manual. But as for
practical ability - well, they just don't seem to sell that in handy
quart bottles.
Anyway listers, my problem is that I can't see how to get the engine to
sit on the engine stand, which has got four adjustable members, each
with a perpendicular cylindrical tube about 2" long and 1" in diameter.
These, I assume, are supposed to engage in suitable apertures in the
back end of the block. Thing is, I've got the clutch and backplate off
but I just can't see any suitable apertures. Not only is there a
distinct shortage of suitability, there is also an almost complete
absence of apertures. There are two circular indentations at the back of
the head, but they're only about a quarter inch deep and anyway, the
head's coming off.
My usual approach - swearing at the engine, jumping up and down, shaking
my fists, invoking curses on smug, retired BL design engineers with
well-tended bungalows, labradors and lambswool cardigans - didn't seem
to help. What do I do, buy, borrow, steal or beg for to get the engine
on the stand?
Or am I going about this the wrong way?
And yes, I'd be interested in a video.
Thanks for all help,
Adam Turner
