I recently needed to replace the turn signal indicator on my 6. The
Brand new Lucas unit arrived and I put it in and found that it would not
self cancel after turning left. Oddly enough the self cancelling worked
fine for right hand turns. I drilled new holes in the bracket thinking
that this would help the self canceling, but it only worked for a little
while. The original unit self canceled properly for 23 years. Finally I
decided that the replacement Lucas unit was defective and sent it back,
when the second new switch arrived I noticed that the lower spring and
self canceling armature was tighter than on the first unit. Needless to
say the second unit worked fine. Oddly enough a friend of mine bought a
new Lucas turn signal wand/switch (from a different supplier) which has
the same self canceling problem mine had. My guess is that ther is a bad
batch of turn signal switches out there.
Additionally, for what it is worth, the first (defective) switch came in
an orange Lucas box, and the second (good one) came in a green Lucas
box. I think however (althoughh I am not certain) that my pal's
defective unit came in a green box as well so.... Try your luck with a
replacement unit. Goodluck.
