Stu,

While I did this on my TR6 the principle applies to the 8 also.  When
installing the a/c crankshaft pulley, I broke the crankshaft bolt loose
by fitting a box-end wrench, bracing it against the frame, then bumped
the starter.  Came loose right away.

As you well know, the head on the TR8 is buried within the harmonic
damper, but a breaker bar should do the trick.
