Fellow Listers:
As late as this may be, I want to invite anyone in the northeast USA to come
along with the New England Triumphs for their annual Lobster Tour. We will
be leaving from Kennebunkport Maine on Saturday the 6th of Sept. We will
meet at "Federal Jack's" restaurant and brew pub and begin the "tour" part
of the day at about 11:30. We will do a scenic and leisurely drive along
the coast of Maine that will finish in Portland at about 3:00 at the new
Doubletree Hotel. From there we will be taken to the waterfront where we
will board a boat to House Island where we will dine on our favorite
crustaceans with all the fixings (chicken is also available as a
substitute). When we return to the mainland, we'll go on a "pub crawl"
through the Old Port section of Portland. We'll be met by the same vans
that got us to the waterfront, and return to the Doubletree where we have
reserved a block of rooms at a special price of $99 for the night.
The next morning, we will drive over to the Down East British Car Show (as
seen in British Car magazine). This is held in Cape Elizabeth at Ft.
Williams park which is the location of the famous Portland Head Light. (No,
not something J. Lucas invented, its a fully operational lighthouse that was
commissioned by none other than George Washington). The show itself is
great, with lots of support from the various New England clubs as well as
individuals with rare and unusual British cars.
The weather forecast so far calls for dry, cool, sunny days in Maine for the
weekend, so it should be perfect. If you're interested, its not too late to
plan to go, but if you are interested in the Saturday activities, you'll
have to let us know. You can reply directly to me via E-mail, or call me at
home at (207) 666-5837 or Bob Grove at (207) 439-3038. The cost of the
Lobster dinner and boat is $37.50 per adult, with children under 13 half
price. There may still be some rooms at the Doubletree. You can call them
at (800) 989-3856, or in Maine at (207) 774-5611. Mention the "New England
Triumphs Lobster Tour" to receive the discounted room rate. We need to
know how many lobster and how many chicken dinners by Thursday morning at
the latest.
