I'm starting to wonder exactly what year my spitfire is. Registration
papers say 1966, but certain things on the car make me think it's a mk3
instead. Perhaps the PO used mk3 replacement parts...? I found a web site
that confirms that my comm. No (FC-706xx) is for a '66 spit - can anyone
tell me is this info is correct? I want to buy some parts to start
re-assembling the car... wouldn't want to buy the wrong parts. :)

Paul - keep in mind that even if your vehicle is registered for a
particular year, it may have been manufactured the prior year. Apparently
Triumph Spitfires did not "fly" off of dealer lots, and sometimes sat for
several months before being sold, hence a later registration date.
Also, note that it is not uncommon for a PO to swap in a later 1300
motor/trans into an early Spit, etc. You really need to carefully inspect
the major components and check serial nos. BEFORE ordering replacement
parts to make sure what you've got. I would recommend that you purchase
the John Thomason book "Triumph Spitfire and GT6 - A guide to Originality",
along with the Bentley manual in order to have a good reference source for
serial nos., build dates, etc.
