          I am the (hopefully not D)PO of a 1966 Spitfire, and I 
          remember the valve cover being a coppery color.  I'm sure 
          that is the correct color.

Bill, Susan, et al --  this is possibly the correct, original
color.  In 1969 the Mk3 valve cover went to silver, but was copperish in 1967, 
according to
my source.  As for finding an exact match, forget about it (!)  I would suggest 
matching
what is already on there via trial and error, but it*s hard to say without 
actually seeing.  Someone else will probably be able to tell you about a color 
they have used successfully
 -- I believe the ªChevy engine orangeª shade has been applied by others.
