Hello Pete,
Just in case you have not thrown this into the pot, could it be a
case of water in the gas ? Did you have a nearly-empty tank for
a while, before this problem, or did you recently fill up at a
different gas station, or at one where the tank truck was filling
the underground tanks ? Fuel filter problem - a possibility ?
A pint of isopropyl gas dryer (NOT rubbing alcohol, BTW) might be
worth a shot, if fuel problems have not been ruled out already.
Just a couple of 2-cent guesses here, hard to `hear' your car
