Dear Triumphs,

The clutch on my 71 TR6 has been giving me grief. One problem is that it has
the usual problem of being marginal on travel due to an ovalled hole in the
pedal, etc.

What my question is though is if people have had experience with air being
drawn into the hydraulics somehow as the car sits (cools down?). It seems
strange since usually when the seals go bad one loses fluid from the system.
I'm not losing any fluid. I have rebuilt the m/c - seemed to be in pretty good
condition, a tiny bit of light scratching along the bore but nothing out of the
ordinary. Also did the slave last night.

I've been through a couple of cycles where everything is fine for several
weeks, then I start the car and cannot throw the clutch out far enough to
select a gear. Then I bleed the system and it's fine again. Maybe somehow a
negative pressure inside can suck air in around one of the seals?

Any experience with and/or explanation of this phenomenon will be most welcome
and appreciated. Thanks!

(Please cc directly to me, since I don't subscribe to the list anymore. I did
just resubscribe to digest but I don't know if it is working right yet.)

Pete
