Oh no, Dave, don't you know the word "carburetor" is French for "leave it
well enough alone =8O
Just kidding. Do you really still have the original OPUS ignition? Most
of those things have long since gone into permanent failure mode. Maybe
you've just been lucky--up to now.
Have you checked the condition of the spark? There should be a good,
clean blue white spark, capable of jumping a good quarter-inch.
Especially with the Sport Coil installed properly. And yes, you'll need
to by-pass the ballast resistor wire (pink/white) that's bundled into the
harness. The easiest was is to run another white wire to the "+" coil
terminal from a switched 12v. source. What you want to end up with is
12v. available to that terminal when the ignition switch is in both the
"Start" and "On" position.
Back to the original problem. Did the engine start running poorly as soon
as you started turning the mixture adjusting nuts. How many flats did you
turn them. Is it possible you accidently loosened the nut that locks the
jet centralization? Check to see if the pistons lift and fall easily.
Assuming you did turn just the adjusting nuts, and only a few flats. I'm
guessing it's coincidence and you should check the spark.
