Dave-
I had this same problem on my '75, and found that the float level was set
extremely high on the carb. (single ZS). The fuel would run-out just as you
described, with the engine off. I looked into the carb and saw the fuel coming
from a small orifice at the 6 o'clock position in the carb throat. Don't know
if this is the same problem, but it's worth a check.
