Shane,
Cut out the ears with a sharp knife, then push the bush down (or up
with the lower bush) further into the tube using a metal drift (I use
the handle from my trolley jack). The old bushes are seldom fully
removed.The new bushes should go in fairly easily with a slight smearing
of washing up liquid, but make sure the ears line up first. Don't be
tempted to use oil of any kind to lubricate the rubbers, it will attack
them in time.
