hi

Gerald.Levit@ccmail.irs.gov asked about rebuilding generators:

Here are my experiences:

I got a friend with a tap & die set to screw a tap into the bush to extract it.
Worked in seconds - I had spent hours trying to get it out with a screwdriver.
As for the front - you need a press of some sort.

I have tried to rebuild dead generators with very limited luck, but in your case
a quick clean of the commutator, new brushes & new bronze bush (well oiled)
should do the
trick. If you have a lot of main bearing slop, you may wish to cut your losses
& get an
exchange unit: this was my route & it fixed all my generator problems.

One day I'm going to figure out what the "upgrade" is: I believe a LandRover
dynamo & control box will do the trick, if I could just find the Lucas
documentation.
Anyone know for sure? TerriAnn?
