Gary,
On all cars that I do brakes on I remove the paint from the back of the pads
with a wire brush and then apply a coat of bearing grease. This protects the
pad from rust and allows it move freely. It's the resistance to the small
vibrations that cause the squeal and this method removes the resistance.
