John,
        If you've got a MK1 Herald chassis under your racer, are you aware of
the stress cracking that occurs with this type? Here in the UK, they're
known for breaking through stress long before they rust. I always
assumed you were running the Mk2 chassis. My 59 Coupe had been fitted
with a stock 13/60 engine for a couple of years, it had stress damage
all around the rear mounting points for the front lower wishbones, right
back behind the front outriggers. The rebuilt car is acquiring a 1500 or
tuned Mk3 Spitfire engine (I haven't decided yet), so I'm putting it on
a rebuilt Mk2 style chassis to avoid problems. I don't want to be a
scare monger, but around 80% of Mk1s I've looked at have had this
problem - this is why Triumph redesigned the chassis in 1962,
