I would replace with one in the trunk and setup to push instead of pull,

this does help prevent vapor lock and has improved my Spitfire's idle
greatly.
I also added a Holley Fuel pressure regulator with a pressure gauge.(
set pressure to 
3lbs )  The regulator is mounted to the cover plate over the old
mechanical pump location.
This setup also will keep the pump itself from getting too hot and dying
..

Oh, and this setup looks COOL !
