Mark,

Reading this update and clarification turned on a (Lucas) lamp in my
brain (followed by smoke). Go to your positive battery cable. Along this
cable, several inches down from where the cable attaches to your
battery, you should have a series of spade connectors with wires coming
off of them. I can't remember which wire it is, but if the right wire in
this group is loose, you will lose power EVERYWHERE. If it happens when
the car is running, the car will quit.

This happened to me when my car was still under warranty. I couldn't
drive it to the dealer for service because the car quit and wouldn't
start. Turning the key had absolutely no affect (effect? which is it Art
Kelly? ;-)), the car was completely dead. There was no way I was going
to let a wrecker driver put his hands on my new TR6, so I kept diddling
until I found this fix by accident. This was in 1974, when I was even a
lousier mechanic than I am now. Several years later, the same thing
happened to another TR6 in my club, and I looked like a genius because I
knew what the problem was (yes, you can fool some of the people some of
the time) and "fixed" it at the side of the road. Give this a try and
let us know what happened (or didn't happen).
