Jeff:
You actually MIGHT be in luck here. When you shift to reverse, do you pull
up on the lever as you move it toward the reverse gate? Anatomically this
may seem impossible, (keep in mind this was designed for right hand drive)
but the shifter is designed so that you must lift upward on the lever to
enter the reverse gate. There is a step on the shifting mechanism to
effect this, but many times the step becomes worn to a point where it is
not always necessary to lift. However, I've known one TR6 owner who broke
the mechanism because he was not aware of this, and simply tried to force
it in to reverse. Don't do this!! My TR6 is worn so that I don't always
need to lift, but I always do now! Like I said, it seems physically
impossible to do from the left side of the car, but it isn't really too bad
once you get your technique down.
