Hey guys (& gals!):

What is the "real world" life expectancy of the Laycock (now LUK) clutch?
Mine may be on its way out, and before I tell you the mileage, a
disclaimer... I do NOT slip the clutch! You all will just have to take my
word on that... this clutch has about 20000 miles on it. It's not spinning
just yet, but often it feels like it's really lost a LOT of bite. In fact,
occasionally, when accelerating hard, I feel it let go very briefly... for
an instant... the revs suddenly increase with no increase in road speed to
go with it, but just for an INSTANT... just a teeny little "blip" in the
revs. Then it continues its normal climb up the tach. Kinda weird.
Actually, I'm not absolutely positive that there ISN'T a corresponding gain
in road speed... it happens too quickly to determine for sure. This car
seems to have a history of clutch problems. (mostly hydraulic in nature)
Anyway, since I drive it every day, I've been trying to go easy on it. Is
the Borg & Beck clutch more reliable than the Laycock? Who has purchased
TRF's "miracle" clutch? I wonder if it's all it's cracked up to be? It's
occurred to me that maybe (and this is really a STRETCH I think) it
suddenly and briefly runs "right" when this happens. The motor has .040
over pistons in it, is balanced, has an uprated cam (very mild) electronic
ignition, and yet I never have felt like it had as much power as it ought
to...or even more power than it did stock!... Is there anything that could
account for a sudden and very brief improvement in the way the engine runs?
I sure can't think of anything! Regardless, I still think the clutch is
going soft. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks
