Steve:

For this part of your question, I must confess a great deal of confusion.
There should only be two wires to the solenoid: The main lead from the
battery goes to the threaded stud at the 12:00 position, and the White/Red
wire goes to the small spade connector at the 1:00 position. The large spade
connector at 12:00 is unused. The White/yellow wire goes to the ( + ) lead of
the ignition coil, and there should be a White/Orange wire going to the
starter relay and to the seat belt timer. There should be a connector midway
on the battery cable to the solenoid, and there should be four Brown wires
attached here. If there is another spade connector at the solenoid, it should
be of medium size, and should be at the 11:00 position. This terminal, if
it's there, is always unused on a TR6. This same model starter is used on
other British cars, and this terminal is used to switch the ballast resister
out of the circuit when starting. On the TR6, the ballast resister is
switched out by the starter relay.

For the second part of your question, I have no confusion, as I just
installed the light switch myself this week. The Purple wire from the harness
goes to the Brown wire of the switch, and the Blue wire from the harness goes
to the Brown/Red wire of the switch. The Bently manual is correct - they
just forgot to tell you that the switch wire colors don't exactly match the
harness colors! The purple wire is used for the hi-beam "flash" function, and
the Blue wire is the output of the main headlight switch. Blue/White is the
hi-beam lead, and Blue/Red is the low beam lead to the headlights.

If this answer doesn't help you solve your problem, e-mail me direct, and we
will bat questions back and forth till we get it solved.
