Your post was a surprise, is this car a hard-top ?
Do you know for sure that your hot water valve is shutting off ?
Those valves are known to be troublesome as they get old, also,
the cable connection could have come loose, so that you push in
your dash control but still have hot water flowing through your
heater core; with your scuttle vent open, you will then get a
nice flow of hot air onto your right leg. Even with the vent
closed, the heater will dump lots of heat into the car.
Just thought that you might have overlooked something here,
