Not already having enough unfinished projects, I am on the verge
of buying a 1969 GT6+. The gearbox is currently out of the car and is
not the original. (the current owner says he took the original box
somewhere for a rebuild and the rebuilder closed/went outa business and
left town with it) The car is over 350 miles away in another state - I
have a friend (car guy but not Triumph oriented) on site who is looking
at the car and talking to the owner for me.
I want to make sure the current owner obtained a gearbox correct for this
car so my questions are:
Where on a GT6 gearbox is the serial # located ?
Will serial # with KC prefix be correct gearbox for this car ?
Would any other gearbox (e.g. KE or KF prefix) work ?
A very unusual situation - although I don't know the current owner, I knew
the original owner of this particular car and actually drove it about 9 years
ago. I haven't seen it since myself since then, but the friend who located
it for me describes a readily restorable car. (except maybe gearbox)
Answers to the above questions greatly appreciated, other comments,
suggestions, warnings, words of encouragement also welcome.
My Triumph ownership experience (dating back 20 years now) so
far has been entirely with TR6s. The GT6 adventure is just begining !

Cheers !
