Roger,

I read the digest, so I need your help. The digest forces me to
scan quickly, and I might miss any answers to you post. I too am in
search of a source of a match for the "hammer-tone" (as I've heard it
refered to as) silver paint, as used on the Triumph wiper motors. I
would appreciate it if you could relay any information on this topic
to me.

By way of a partial suggestion, although I've never resin coated a
fiberboard tranny cover, I must presume it would be heavier than a
fiberglass replacement. This is because the fiberboard is heavier than
the corresponding amount of fiberglass cloth used to make a 'glass
cover. If weight is of no concern, then go for it. My suggestion is
to get "boatyard resin" (I'm not exactly sure if that's the name), by
Fiberglass Evercoat Company, It is their "cheaper" resin, yet I see NO
difference between it and their best. If you get it from a "discount",
national boat supply company, it should run about $20-$25 a gallon, fail-
ing that, go somewhere other than a boat place, as they are generally
more expensive than the average auto or hardware store.
You should need about two quarts for this job, and after the hardner
is mixed into the resin, it is contaminated to the point it never should
be re-introduced back into the canful of unused resin. This method should
work if, and only if, the cover is oil/grease free (for if it isn't, this
whole idea won't work). I'd just suggest you get a throw-away paint brush,
and brush it on. It should soak into the fiberbaord and reinforce/strenghten
it once it cures.

          Good Luck & TIA,
                                 Joe IV
