Jim,
I removed the body from the frame of my TR4A and painted and restored the
suspension. Once this was done, after I welded in the new floors, rockers,
inner
rockers, etc... I sandblasted the entire shell and painted it with Corlyss
from
Eastwood to prevent rust. I then painted the underside and undercoated the
underside and bolted the entire thing back on the frame. Then I sent the
entire
package to the paint shop for them to straighten the outer panels and paint
the car.
They proceded to remove the body and sent the chassis back to my garage.
After
much debate, they have now asked for the chassis back to test fit the body
and paint
the engine compartment and jambs. He is still not sure if he is going to
paint the car
on or off the frame. He is afraid to get overspray on the chassis and
detailed suspension.
My guess is that he will paint the jambs and engine compartment, test fit
the body on the
frame and then remove the entire body to paint and then do the final
fitting. He also said he
might only spray the base coat, but spray clear with the body mounted.
I will let you know what the final solution was......
