Hi,
Late cars with OHC and small combustion chambers are almost all
"interference" design. This means that if a valve is open just about any
amount when the piston reaches the top of the stroke, the valve will
"interfere" with the piston. This is a design criteria.
I'm pretty sure a stock TR6 head, especially the "Late" design should not
be an interference setup, unless the head is planed a lot. Think of it
this way: with a stock late cam and stock rocker arms, there is only
about .330 lift at the valve. That's not a lot. The combustion chamber on
all of the heads that I have looked at were certainly deeper than .330 of
an inch.
Now, if you planed the head to the max 14:1 ratio and had a cam with >
.400 lift, that might be an interference problem.
But it would go like hell before it blows up!
