Sorry Greg  this is a common misconception.  It is only true until some time
in 1964 (May for sure) when the wood dash became standard for US spec models.
(Mine was built on 14 May and I picked it up at Coventry on 11June '64.  The
wood dash was there even though I had not ordered it and did not pay extra
for it ( :-) IMHO the latter is a sure sign it was standard ).
