thanx for all the advice off of the list...i tightened, checked
the hood clearance and support for for adequate clearance.

looked once again (and didn't like what i saw at the starter
end of business) at the cable between the solenoid and starter.
it is still loose, and i can wiggle it about at the terminal on the
end of the starter. so, i removed the starter, its on the bench &
i will drop it off to be rebuild...now the question, do you just
order a complete rebuild? what, if any, specifics should i request
from the rebuilder? i think the pinion gear (i think that is the gear
on the end of the starter) may be worn or shot, any of you guys
know what the depth of the gear on that animal should be? is
that the pinion gear on the bendix...off of the end of the starter?

 thanx.....richard / colorado
