It could be a loose timing chain.

The car starts/idles/runs very well except: On hard acceleration from 
standstill it will sometimes "cut out". To be more specific, it goes from

full power to an immediate loss of power as if running on 3 cylinders or 
out of fuel. It does not stall and within a second or so it will 
immediately regain full power. The cap/rotor/points/condensor/wires/plugs

are about a year old and the carbs were rebuilt at about the same time. 
Compression is good. This problem makes the car a bit unpredictable when 
pulling out into traffic. Any ideas would be appreciated.
