Several people have written about drilling a small hole in the fork and
punching out the broken pin. This is the best way to go in that you save
your parts. Though I can't take credit for this next part, I believe it
may put this issue to rest. Take your shaft, fork and a new pin to a
machine shop and have a "key" put in the shaft and fork. A friend has
done this, I don't know what it costs. Compared to cutting off a welded
shaft, breaking down on the road or replacing a broken pin for the second
time one must heed the old saying "pay me now or pay me later".
I am on the downhill side of a frame-off and even though the engine and
transmission are done, I am going to pull it and have this done before
the body goes back on.
