Thermodynamic engineers,et.al.
Remember the thread a month or so back about keeping a TR3 from
overheating? The one where the thread was getting as overheated as the
cars? Sorry for the delay- been out of pocket on business (and a little
vacation) and then ran into starter problems, but finally, today I got to
go out and play in traffic a little and the temp needle held steady just a
tad above 185. Still need a good test - maybe a trip to Alice's Resterant
up in the mountains next weekend?
The fixes included, 1. plugging the bypass: a short piece of 1/2" I.D. (if
I remember correctly,) copper pipe with a cap from my spare plumbing parts
bin worked perfectly. I drilled a small hole in the cap, probably too
small to do any good. 2. A new radiator cap- I really suspected that the
DPO had put the wrong one on and I think that this was a significant
contributor to the problem, 3. Installed a radiator shroud (or "duct") and
4. poured in a bottle of water wetter. I also bought a 160 thermostat, but
didn't install it. The car seems to run better when it gets up to 180 or
so.
Thanks to all who contributed.
