I did the door caps and other trim pieces on a 59 TR3A over the winter in a
fairly heavy black vinyl. The aluminum (or were some sheet metal) caps
were in good shape and I used 3M brand trim adhesive. The packing was
frayed but I reused anyway. Starting at one end I stretched and stretched
the vinyl until the fit was pretty good. Took my time and used both
C-clamps with wood blocks and vice grips with wood blocks to hold the vinyl
in place over night till the adhesive "cured". If you take your time, it
is a task that can be done in an evening or so. Cost was under $10 for the
vinyl and adhesive.
